I find it fascinating how much power David had over his people. I’m reading 2 Samuel right now and there are many parts where it becomes apparent how valuable David is to his people. One such instance is in 2 Samuel 18: 2-3: “And the king said to his men ‘I myself will also go out with you.’ But the men said, ‘You shall not go out. For if we flee, they will not care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore it is better that you send us help from the city.’”
This type of loyalty is amazing to me and it got me thinking about what people are willing to do for someone who they perceive to be more valuable than themselves. How do we go about assigning values to people’s lives. We can see this type of loyalty (and sometimes fear) on a smaller scale in the case of Prince Harry going to war against great opposition from the British government. He is thought of as being more important than the other soldiers which made him more of a target to the enemy. These are the same types of thoughts going the the heads of David’s people in 2 Samuel. This got me thinking, if David is worth that much, how much more worth did Jesus’ life hold? It says in Romans 5:7 that “one will scarcely die for a righteous person–though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die.”
Even with cases of loyalty like David’s, it is impossible to compare that to Jesus and his loyalty to us. Although Jesus didn’t have a worldwide following in the billions while he was alive, he took on the sins of every man and died so that they might live. The only thing that we can say is that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are worth everything. That is so hard to comprehend and I have trouble thinking about that sometimes; His life is worth everything that has ever been and ever will be.
For that, we should give him all the glory. Or in the words of my friend Dave Werner, “it’s like…whoooooaaa.”

Tiger Woods is ridiculous. No one golfing right now is even in the same league as this guy. He already has won 14 majors and the all time record is 18 yet Jack Nicklaus only got number 18 when he was 46…Tiger is 32. Holy cow. How does one person get so far ahead of the competition? It seems like it’s not even fair to the other golfers when Tiger is playing.
He had surgery on his knee a while ago and came back from the surgery and the first time he even walks 18 holes is the first round of the US Open…and he wins. What? That is beyond amazing. The guy is tough. I think at this point he can be considered the best golfer of all-time. He’s already third on the all time wins list and second in most majors won but like I said before, he is only 32 and probably has a lot of golf left in him before he decides to call it quits.
My hat goes off to Tiger.

I have decided that I am going to build another guitar this summer. If it sounds good enough I might even end up taking it to France with me in September.
Before I get to that, though, I wanted to do something a little different. Yesterday my dad ordered two ukelele kits for him and me to build. They’re coming from Grizzly.com which means they are very little work but you still have to do a little bit of building to finish them up. Plus they were $19.00 each so how could you pass it up?
After that though I think I am going to get a guitar kit from either Martin or US Guitar Kits. It should be fun and rewarding like the last one was. The Martin kit would be much more difficult but that makes things more interesting and educational whereas the US Guitar Kits one would be less work but I would still get to do a lot of the interesting work like shaping braces and binding. It may ultimately come down to price since the Martin one is $70.00 more. We’ll see which one I choose.
I’ll put up pictures of both the ukelele and the guitar when I am done. Maybe I’ll put up pictures of the process as well because I find it fascinating.

For those of you who I haven’t talked to in a week: I got a job. I am working at an architecture firm in Palatine, IL. The commute is about 45 minutes for me which is kind of a bummer and kind of expensive but the job will give me really good experience.
Today I worked on some stuff using Adobe InDesign. I did one presentation board and edited a tenant criteria manual. They were both interesting things to work on and it’s nice to actually have some design input as far as the layouts go. I hope I can continue to work on some stuff like this as well as doing some CAD work in the future.
That’s all for now.

I am finally done with sophomore year. This was by far the most academically difficult year of my life. Although it was tough, I’m really glad that I went through it because I learned a lot of different things and I am starting to get excited to go to Versailles in September.
I have also been on the job hunt for a while so if you want to give me a job doing sweet stuff, I’m in. I have an interview tomorrow. Wish me luck!
